Main Story (2020)

As soon as the prologue ends, the actor is introduced to The Curator, who introduces himself or asks if they have already met. He says that the fire was inevitable and the actor is not to blame, drawing their attention to what may exist in the future.

In the present day, the autobus driver takes students Andrew, Angela, Taylor, and Daniel, and their professor John on the trip. He takes detour through the ghost town of Little Promise due to an blow blocking the road. Seeing a girl suddenly appear, the commuter swerves off the road to avoid her, causing the bus to flip over. The heroes recover from the crash, splitting into 2 groups – Daniel and Angela, who fell out of the coach in the ravine, and Andrew, Taylor, and John, who remained on the road. Reuniting at the pylon, the group realizes that they cannot return to the bus due to the fog that keeps them out.

Walking forth the road, the grouping stumbles upon a bar and, seeing the light inside, decide to enter. Within, they detect no one except a lonely drinking man who introduces himself as Vince. The group doesn't manage to go any information from him due to his drunkenness, but later on hearing the ringing of bells, they head to the town. Along the manner, Andrew and Angela lag backside the others and begin to hear eerie sounds from the woods. Having picked up a doll, they offset meet a girl in strange apparel named Mary, and then a hooded woman named Amy. When the others arrive, Andrew and Angela talk about what happened, only the guys don't believe them.

The player meets with the Curator once again, who briefly discusses the personality of each protagonist and who Mary is - a girl in trouble or is she a problem.

The grouping continues forth the road and, upon reaching intersection, encounter a mysterious girl. John (solitary or with Angela) walks towards her, but again encounters Amy without a hood, who looks exactly like Angela. Later on what they see, the protagonists are divided into two groups: John and Andrew keep to walk straight along the route and Taylor and Daniel follow a unlike path (who Angela goes with depends on the player). In any example, both of the group neglect to find annihilation, just they meet again with Mary. From flashbacks, they larn that Mary accused Amy of witchcraft and told Reverend Carver nigh it, who then arrested, tried and sentenced Amy to expiry. Following the but unchecked path, the group reaches the collapsed bridge. Andrew, John, and Angela manage to half-cross the span before information technology collapses farther, separating them from the rest. There, the group encounters Amy, thrown out and drowned in the river. Under the bridge, the three are attacked by a Drowned Demon, merely they manage to escape. Angela escapes with the grouping, or is caught by the creature and drowned.

The Curator comments Angela's fate and the gun that Andrew can observe, and he also offers a bit of advice to the role player saying that you need to forget evil and forgive yourself.

The commencement group, running through the woods, ends upwards in the cemetery, from where they exit back onto the road. They spot the girl and follow her into the alleyway. Angela lags backside the guys and is attacked by demon. She is dragged into the sewers, but Angela manages to escape from the demon, although Andrew and John will believe that she is dead. Continuing to run after the girl, the guys discover themselves in the museum. There they discover Mary's poppet and can exit her or fire her, after which they leave. Meanwhile, another group goes the other mode and too ends up in the museum. Yet, Taylor is confronted by her double, Tabitha, who is besides Mary'due south sister. She is accused of witchcraft and for giving Mary a doll. Despite Taylor's attempts to get Mary to confess that the doll is hers, Tabitha is nevertheless arrested. When Daniel finds her, one of them can accept a knife from the table, after which they get out the museum.

The Curator will annotate whether the protagonists have weapons and tin give a hint saying that everyone has demons and they simply belong to them.

While looking for the residuum, the couple makes information technology to the execution site, where they encounter Tabitha being hanged/burned at the pale. When theн tries to move on, the Hanged/Burned Demon begins to follow them, just the couple manage to escape. Daniel and Taylor catch upwards with Andrew and John and run to hide in the church building together. Along the mode, Andrew encounters Vince, whom he can enquire to phone call for assistance or bulldoze away. The group notices the girl ascending the bell belfry and Andrew and Daniel follow her while Taylor and John remain below to guard the archway. On the bong tower, the guys run into how David, Daniel'due south double and Mary'south older brother, are going to be executed, but Daniel manages to grab him. However, this doesn't relieve David and he falls onto the argue. As the protagonists investigate the church building, an Impaled Demon appears, forcing the grouping to run outside. At that place they are divided into ii pairs - Daniel with John and Taylor with Andrew - and after fleeing from the demons, they escape to the woods, together or having lost Daniel/Taylor.

The Curator comments on the number of survivors and asks the player if they already begin to understand what is happening.

In the wood, the group takes a break and discusses a plan of action. Suddenly, they hear rustles and see demon'south silhouette. The silhouette turns out to exist the escaped Angela, whom Andrew could accidentally shoot. Following the path, Daniel and Taylor are attacked past their demons again and Andrew must relieve them.

Having reached the derelict building, the guys meet Andrew's double Abraham, who wants to tell the court nigh Mary. While discussing the flashback, Taylor is attacked by a demon and she may dice or escape. While trying to leave the manufactory, Daniel falls into a pit and is attacked by a demon. He tin also die or escape through a tunnel (alone or with Andrew).

There, the group sees the execution of Joseph, John'south double and Amy's husband, and despite attempts to interrupt it, Joseph is killed. John and Angela are attacked past Drowned and Crushed Demons and they can die or save each other and run home.

On the second flooring, Andrew and some other protagonist run into Mary and Abraham, who ask them for help, every bit Carver accused Mary of witchcraft. Development

Unlike Human being of Medan, which was a modern-solar day story, Fiddling Hope's story covers multiple timelines, with the narrative jumping back and forth between the present and the by. The game features more than supernatural elements when compared to its predecessor and the team chose witchcraft equally the game's main theme equally they wanted to explore its root causes. Pete Samuels, the game'south director, added that the team was intrigued by the "greed, paranoia, and fear of God" which motivated people to commit heinous acts during that period.

The squad took inspirations from both the Silent Loma series and The Crucible, which is a play about the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during 1692–93. The game was also inspired past films including The Witch, The Blair Witch Project, Hellraiser, It Follows, The Omen, and Flavor of the Witch. Will Poulter was hired to voice and provide motion capture for Andrew, the game's lead graphic symbol.

The first footage of the second installment in The Dark Pictures Anthology appeared in Man of Medan's golden pic showing a young woman slipping on water ice and hanging herself while a young man watches in horror. Not but that, a small teaser [one] from Niggling Promise would be shown subsequently the end credits. There, the identity of three of the characters of the new game were shown: Andrew, Angela and Mary.

In the teaser, Andrew is telling Angela that he saw something in the woods, but she doesn't believe him. Mary then appears, dancing by the fire and showing the poppet she fabricated herself. Adjacent, a manus of an unknown fauna comes out of the water and grabs Angela's legs with chains as she tried to climb the slope and desperately called Andrew for help. Angela hits her caput on the basis and the creature drags her trunk abroad while Andrew screams for Angela. The teaser ends, announcing the title of the second installment and the release year - Little Hope, 2020.

Little Hope's bell tower.

Months later and at the end of the yr, Picayune Hope was presented past Supermassive Games on their social media past means of a picture showing a bell tower full of snow and inhabitants.

On February 27th, the British studio released several images promoting the title and a modest trailer [two] that motivated the different reactions that some of the almost pop youtubers had while uploading their playthroughs on their channels. They also revealed the cover fine art of the game and all the main protagonists: four students and their teacher, in this case.

Andrew on the path of oblivion.

After a month and a half with some extra information having been released on social media, on April 14th, Supermassive released a new trailer [iii] with more content than the previous ones, and likewise a release appointment. The game would be released in summertime of that same year. A few days later, a small gameplay [4] video was uploaded to diverse YouTube channels. The gameplay too shows some of the new mechanics that the 2nd installment of the album would use.

Pilgrim article of clothing design (Isaac & Mary).

Weeks afterward, on May fifth, Pete Samuels would make a brief reflection on the game released in summer with the first chapter of the Development Diary [v]. Information technology is said that the story would take place in iii timelines, and the five main protagonists would be present in all of them in different roles. Niggling Promise is likewise described every bit "A place with a dark history, a paranoia that pervaded a settlement at the centre of the 17th century witch trials." Like in Man of Medan, its predecessor, Little Hope also comes with several different game modes, such as the Shared Story and Curator'south Cut. As the Diary progresses, Samuels specifies about the story and the characters: three immature students, a mature educatee, and their professor. The clothing pattern taken past some of the characters from unlike eras is shown a chip, including those found in 1692.

Supermassive's of import bulletin.

On June 11th, Pete Samuels appear that due to COVID-19 pandemic, Supermassive Games had assigned their workers to work from home for their safety, which resulted in Little Hope being delayed for the fall.

Andrew, Angela and John being threatened by a monster

A new trailer [6] with new footage and even some visible graphical improvements, would be released on July 8th on Supermassive Games' social media, where the definitive release date would finally be shown, on October 30th, just in time for Halloween. That same day on IGN'south official YouTube channel, a new and brusk gameplay [7] video would be uploaded, and at that place, the identity of six new characters would be revealed, the Clarke family (protagonists of the prologue chapter), in which the distancing of this family led by a troubled couple (Anne and James) and their four adopted children would be shown. In this occasion, the player would play as Anthony (Theatrical Cut), one of the youngest children in the family.

Later on, on Baronial 26th, BNE released a small and interactive trailer [8] in which every single viewer had the possibility of deciding Andrew, Angela and John's fate, who were in danger nether Piffling Hope'south complanate bridge. A clear example of what was to come up in Fall. 2 days later, IGN published a pocket-size gameplay [ix] video similar to the ane Man of Medan had at the time, in Summer 2019. This would last about half an hour, and it would show ane of the earlier Little Hope chapters, in both the Theatrical Cutting and Curator'southward Cut modes.

On October 2nd, a small documentation about the behind the scenes motion capture was released on Supermassive Games' YouTube channel (although information technology was released a twenty-four hour period before on other social media, such every bit Instagram), interviewing those who have performed the action scenes for the five master protagonists of each era. Each one of them (Burniston, Norton, Staples, Jinks & Archer) recounts their experience in this activeness, and also the adaptation procedure for each grapheme, since they are all very dissimilar from ane another.

You can feel costless to basically merely copy/paste everything I said near Man of Medan[...]it was foolish to expect any particularly grand advancements, since all of the games in this series would preferably want a consequent experience, simply it would have been nice to have even a piddling more variety."

A negative review from IGN'due south Lucy O'Brien described Trivial Hope equally "an odd, anemic thriller" where "its pick and consequence system feels strangely superficial". New Game Network echoed like sentiments about the choice system.
