Midori Tips & Tweaks
I am writing this guide since Midori is the default browser in Slitaz 3. Your first thought may be to install Firefox and not giving Midori a try because it lacks features. I idea it lacked features or Addon'southward also until I dug around some. If you want to know the history of Midori visit information technology's Wiki page: Midori Wiki
Things that I volition encompass:
Ad Blocking Custom Search Engines Flash Blocking UserScripts Shortcuts
Enabling Extensions
Upon opening Midori click on the "Tools Menu", Go downwards to "Extensions" and click on it. This should open a "console" that displays boxes that yous tin can cheque to enable dissimilar Extensions or Options. Cheque only the boxes yous wish to enable. I would enable "Statusbar Features" and "Toolbar Editor" right now. Everything involving those 2 should exist self explantory. And then no need for a "HowTo". I would tell yous what other things to enable correct now, only if someone adds to this wiki so this paragraph would need to be edited. And so if anything needs to exist enabled it will be mention it every bit information technology go along.
Advertizing Blocking
In extensions enable: Advertisement blocker
Most people like advertising blocking that FireFox has through an extension called Adblock Plus(ABP). Well Midori has an adblocker that uses the well known "easylist" from ABP. Now that you lot have it enabled we need to edit it. Click on the "Tools Menu", now click on "Configure Ad filters". This should now open up a box looking similar this:
From the flick you lot can see that adding a ruleset is pretty self explanatory. As an example click on Add, and then insert this url:
http://easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org/easyprivacy.txt
That is what it should now look like. Now to block a single prototype just right click the image on the page yous desire to block. Become down to Cake Image and click Add. Now that epitome is blocked.
Managing Search Engines
No extension needs to be enabled for this characteristic.
This is ane of my favorite things in any browser. I utilise this for other things then only search engines. I volition share that later. Click on the "Tools Carte", then click on "Manage Search Engines". But like Advertizement blocking you should get a box to pop upward that looks like this:
Since I don't actually use anything else but google I am but going to add Yahoo! equally an case of how to add information technology and employ it. Click add and fill up it in to look similar this:
Once that is washed go up to the URL bar in midori and type: "y slitaz linux" without the quotes. Example:y slitax linux. After pressing Enter you should at present come across the yahoo search results for slitaz. Yahoo Results Typing "grand slitaz" again without the quotes would requite you the google results for SliTaz.
Here is what I use it for besides search engines. In Opera when you lot bookmark something you can brand a nickname for the site. I have the messages: fs for http://forum.slitaz.org. So I just type "fs" without the quotes in the urlbar to go to SliTaz's forum. Now I don't meet this feature in Midori so I just make a custom search engine like I did for Yahoo!. I am not actually adding a search just using it as a shortcut. I call back for the pictures I added that it is self explanatory how to add together whatever site you want to make a shortcut for.
For all yous twitter users or people that like shortened urls. Add together this to custom searches:
http://is.gd/create.php?longurl=
I give mine the Token letter "u". When I have a large url I want to shorten, I go to the URL bar, go to the left of the "http" in the url, then I type "u". Then press space then enter it takes me to that site and shortens the url. Example:Shortening URL Consequence:Shortened URL
For those who hate using the mouse like me and want to shorten url'southward you can do the same matter above like this:
Ctrl-L, Left Arrow key, blazon u, spacebar, then enter
If you lot have javascript enabled then the shortened url should already exist highlighted. So a quick Ctrl-c should copy it for you.
Wink Blocking
To flashblock you need to use a userscript. UserScripts are simply custom javascripts to do a range of things. I will cover other UserScripts later in this wiki merely flashblock is more and so likely gonna exist the only i anyone will utilise.
Start we need to make a binder if you lot don't already accept it:
/home/tux/.local/share/midori/scripts
"tux" is just used equally an example. If you accept a different user proper noun and so modify accordingly.
These pictures are kind of big and then I am just linking to them. Instance before FlashBlock: Flash Blocked
At present go to: Flashblock Wannabe . Download FlashBlock.user.js.txt (remove the .txt extension) to the folder nosotros merely created. Go to the Tools Carte du jour, and click on UserScripts. You should now see "FlashBlock Wannabe" Make sure at that place is a checkmark adjacent to it. Sometimes the UserScripts show up right away and other times they don't then I only restart Midori to view the UserScripts. Then if information technology isn't showing and then merely restart Midori. Now you lot should accept flash blocked unless you lot click on it like the flashblocker addon for FireFox. It should look like this:
Wink Unblocked
User Scripts
If you lot already did the Flashblocking office and then this should be as easy as downloading them and putting them in the correct binder. No big HowTo here I will but show you some examples of the ones I use and what they practice.
Linkify: If y'all have always been to a site or forum and someone posted a link that is just text and not clickable then this is for yous. It makes all "http" links clickable. It saves you from highlighting and copying and pasting links to a url bar.
Google Image Redirector: If you always google search for images and click on an image you will detect that it take you to the folio but the tiny image is in a frame. This userscript takes you directly to the bodily image. Saves you a couple clicks of the mouse.
Google Testify Options: Last year google added avant-garde search options in results. Yous could click on the "Show Options" and it would list them. This bypasses clicking on it and information technology shows it right away without have to click it.
Merely Bear witness Images: If y'all take ever clicked on a link from a forum or anything to sure image hosting sites you would notice all the ads. This UserScript only shows the motion picture yous desire and piffling else.
Like shooting fish in a barrel YouTube Downloader: If you would like to download the video from YouTube without going to a seperate site, you tin can use this script. Information technology adds a download pick for multiple video formats on the screen.
Shortcuts
In extensions enable: shortcuts
I try to apply the mouse every bit little as possible. So shortcuts come in handy. Here is how to view and/or edit them to your taste. Open up the "Tools Menu" go downward to and click on "Customize Shortcuts." You volition get a popup that looks similar this:
In the picture you will run across an activeness forth with an assigned "shortcut". Some prove an action but are disabled. I will show you how to change a "shortcut" or to enabled 1 that is disabled. To assign a "shortcut" click on what yous would like to change to highlight. Now go to the right and click the mouse where the "shortcut" or word "disabled" is and click. It should modify the text to "New accelerator…" At present all you have to practice is printing a combination of keys y'all would like to brand upwardly your shortcut. Popular choices to beginning your shortcut with are any of these:
Control, Alt, or either Winkeys
Winkeys will be either "Super L" or "Super R" depending on which you press. Non every keyboard has a "Winkey" or simply has just one. I adopt to use the F1 to F12 keys. Here is an example of some of my shortcuts:
Show/Hide Sidepanel F2 Prove/Hibernate Bookmarkbar F3 Show/Hide Menubar F4 Refresh F5 Preferences F7 Focus Current Tab F9 Full Screen F11 Bookmarks Ctrl+B Add together Bookmarks Ctrl+D Homepage Ctrl+H Highlight URLbar Ctrl+L Close Tab Ctrl+W Next Tab Ctrl+Folio Down Previous Tab Ctrl+Page Up
Just wanted to add together that if you want to "disable" a shortcut. Pressing Backspace in "New accelarator…" volition disable information technology.
